Lacey Smith

Lacey, FL Aviation Center President and Owner, grew up in rural southern Iowa where she became a horse trainer as a young adult. For work, she travelled to Pittsburgh, PA for several years, then to North Carolina and eventually to Florida. Traveling to her far-flung clients led to the idea of learning to fly! She was soon hired at the local FBO, and was to promoted to customer service manager and later to supervisor.

 

Lacey's personal flight instructor insisted she get involved in the aviation community so she attended an EAA meeting where she was inspired to open the flight school. Lacey continues to work on additional ratings and enjoys hosting events for the local aviation community.

Terry McCaffrey

Terry McCaffrey arrived in Tallahassee about 10 years ago as the Air Force ROTC Commander at Florida State University.  He was born on an Air Force base and grew up in southern California with a dream to fly. Terry attended the US Air Force Academy where we soloed his first aircraft, a Schweizer SGS 2-33 Glider.  Upon graduation, he went on to Air Force pilot training and then flew operational tours in the F-111 Aardvark, the AT-38B Talon, the F-15C Eagle and was original cadre bringing the T-6A Texan II into the Air Force. He has also flown the C-152 / 172, Citabria, Baron, T-37, T-38, and the F-16. 

 

He earned his Commercial ME,SE and Instrument ratings in 1989. During his Air Force career, he was a flight and ground instructor and flight evaluator in multi and single engine instrument aircraft. After leading the T-6A program in 2005-2006, Terry left the cockpit full time and completed several senior staff positions, but recently got the bug to return to flying. He completed his requalification flying at FL Aviation Center and recently transitioned his military experience into his CFI, ME, SE, Instrument ratings.

Jim Bragdon

James (Jim) Bragdon is a Florida native living on a small, short private airport. He's owner of several old cars and aircraft, and started flying career with a f/w private rating in 1969.

 

He retired from a law enforcement aviation position and also worked as an aviation fire fighter as lead instructor with the state of Florida and as contractor for the US Forest service. He was a Master Army Aviator from the US Army as a CW-4 (Chief Warrant Officer) and a military flight instructor in helicopters. 

​

James has a fixed wing ME ATP and an ATP in Rotary Wing with a type rating; He's a CFI and CFII in r/w and f/w aircraft, gliders, and single engine sea. He also has his A&P with Inspection Authorization and Technician class FCC license.

Andy Anderman

Andy Anderman has been a private pilot since the early 1960s, going on to add his instrument and commercial helicopter ratings in Army flight school in the mid-60s. He earned his multi-engine and ATP ratings in the mid-70s, and has been actively involved in aviation education ever since. He currently holds an aviation mechanic rating and gyrocopter, and instrument flight instructor certificates for gliders, rotorcraft and airplanes (single engine land and sea). 

 

In 2018, his lifelong pursuit was recognized by the FAA. He received the prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, given to honor aviators for 50 years of safe flight operations. Little-known facts about Andy: he holds a Flight Engineer rating on the 727 and he is a senior parachute rigger.

Jordan Melson

Jordan Melson first took interest in aviation when he was only six years old. Ever since, he's been actively pursuing this dream of flying.

"I took my first flight at 16 and never looked back. I did all of my training out of Arlington, Texas and have been fortunate enough to instruct here at FL Aviation Center. I look forward to meeting and flying with you." 

Michael Elbrecht

Michael Elbrecht first “slipped the surly bonds of Earth” on a discovery flight in 2017. He then decided to turn his lifelong passion for aviation into his career.

 

Michael completed his flight training and earned his CFI and CFII down in Sarasota where he also worked in EMS for several years. He plans to eventually fly for the airlines while staying active in general aviation.

 

As a Florida State University alum, Michael is happy to be back in Tallahassee where enjoys sharing his love for flying with other aspiring aviators.

Janine Marish

​"My name is Janine. My dad (who is a pilot) took me for my first flight lesson at 16. Ever since then I knew I wanted to fly. I’ve been an instructor since 2018 and love sharing my passion for aviation with others. There’s no better feeling than helping a student achieve their first solo or earn their private pilots license."

Blake Reader

Blake is a CFI who loves to be active and adventurous. He's from Melbourne, FL and he was drawn to becoming a pilot because of the lifestyle and ability to travel the world!

 

He is 22 years old and has been flying since he was 17. He enjoys surfing and anything that has to do with the water! In the next couple years he plans on becoming an airline pilot. 

​

His mantra is "don't stop until you're proud!"
